Working in Concert: A Short Diagnostic for Getting Your Business Moving as One

My name is Shaun Cohen. I built a $250M company from zero, and I came through fire and came back stronger, clearer, and more useful to owners than I was before. That pairing shapes everything I do at Min Habor Consulting in Miami. I work with owners who carry the full weight of the business on their shoulders, and I help them see the business clearly enough to move it forward with confidence.

Every business centers on a vision. Your vision gives your business its direction, its purpose, and its standard for every decision. Your vision drives your core idea — the central promise you deliver to the people you serve. Every unit in your business exists to deliver that core idea: sales, operations, finance, service, leadership. When every unit works together around that core idea, your business moves in concert toward your vision. When units drift apart, you feel the drag.

Here is the frame I use with every owner I serve. Inefficiencies, breakdowns, and choke points show up in numbers, schedules, and margins, and their roots live in communication. One unit holds information another unit needs. One leader carries a decision another leader waits on. One handoff loses clarity between two people who both want the same result. The business keeps running, and the energy leaks out through those gaps. My work closes those gaps. I get units, systems, and people working in concert around the core idea toward the vision, so the business moves as one.

Use the four questions below as a mirror. Answer each one in writing, in plain language, with examples from the last thirty days. Your answers show you where your business already moves in concert and where communication gaps slow you down.

  1. Vision: Could every person on your team state your vision in one sentence, in their own words? When your team shares one clear picture of where the business heads, decisions get faster and priorities get sharper. When each person carries a different picture, each unit pulls toward a different destination.
  2. Core idea: Could a customer describe your core idea after one conversation with your team? Your core idea gives every unit one shared center. Sales promises it, operations delivers it, service protects it, and leadership measures it. When that center holds, customers feel the coherence.
  3. Handoffs: Where does information stall between units in your business? Name one handoff from the last thirty days where clarity faded between two units. Name who held the information, who waited on it, and what the delay cost in time, money, or momentum. That handoff marks a communication gap, and communication gaps point directly to the choke point.
  4. Concert: Which two units in your business work most closely together today, and which two work most separately? The pair that works closely together shows you what concert feels like. The pair that works separately shows you where your next gain lives. Bringing that second pair into the same rhythm lifts the whole business.

Read your four answers together. Look for the pattern. Owners often find one theme running through all four answers: one conversation that keeps getting postponed, one decision that keeps circling, one handoff that keeps losing clarity. That pattern is your constraint. Start there. Bring the people on both sides of that handoff into one conversation, name the core idea you all serve, agree on who owns each next step, and set a date to confirm the rhythm holds.

Picture your business working in concert. Sales promises what operations loves to deliver. Operations hands service a clean record. Service hands leadership clear numbers. Leadership hands every unit a clear priority for the week. You spend your days leading toward your vision, and your team spends theirs delivering your core idea. That picture is reachable. It starts with one clear conversation about where communication gaps slow you down today.
